Someone’s going to get a spanking from the blogmistress! I want to know who has turned over one of our top secret strategy documents to the fundie Alliance Defense Fund. Blender Karen in Kalifornia alerted me to the security breach; click the image to see what has been leaked from Homo Headquarters.

Steps to Success: Step One, GET ENSLAVED!

Posted by Jack Stephens on March 24, 2008

Karnythia blogs at The Angry Black Woman on a recent blog post by Pat Buchanan:

It’s this deliberate misinformation that bolsters the idea that black people are somehow magically getting ahead without merit, and fosters the resentment you see so often from whites that argue so vociferously against the concept of white privilege and against affirmative action. Never mind that the main beneficiaries of affirmative action have been white women. No, let’s just scream about that one time a POC “stole” a job that you really wanted/needed/preferred and ignore the part where you weren’t entitled to that job above all applicants.

It doesn’t help that even in school the history books skim over what Ida B. Wells, the NAACP, The Black Panthers, the NOI and others were doing in support of the black community. Aside from the actual Civil Rights Movement marches and demonstrations that are discussed, there is very little mention of day to day life in black communities.

“I’m Soooo Black And You’re Not!”

Posted by Jack Stephens on March 5, 2008

The Undercover Black Man blogs about Margaret “Peggy” Seltzer (aka Margaret B. Jones) the author of Love and Consequences: A Memoir of Hope and Survival:

It’s the story of how young Margaret used to run with the Bloods – along with her foster brothers – and sell drugs… until she turned her life around and left the gang-banging behind.

Guess what?

Fucking lies. All of it.

Her real name is Margaret “Peggy” Seltzer. She’s white. Just plain ol’ white. And she grew up comfortable in white-ass Sherman Oaks with her natural family.

The RCP’s Idol Worship

Posted by Jack Stephens on February 18, 2008

Burningman blogs on the Revolutionary Communist Party’s response to the Nine Letters to our Comrades, which was a group of critical letters on the RCP and it’s leadership by a former RCP member:

The Revolutionary Communist Party has decreed on a “matter of basic orientation.” The unsigned author(s) don’t mention the object of their scorn by name, but they call the Nine Letters to Our Comrades nothing but “completely dishonest and unprincipled attacks, including crude distortions of our views, aims, and methods.” The distortions and purported lies are not discussed, noted in particular or corrected. Off limits and not up for consideration. Decided. Think about that. Read the Nine Letters, then the RCP’s initial public response and hear the elastic snap.

Real Israelis

Posted by Jack Stephens on February 16, 2008

Connie writes on Sabbah Blog about a recent ad campaign in Israel:

An aggressive public relations campaign against military draft evaders is currently being waged on billboards, television sets and computer screens throughout Israel. Entitled “Real Israelis Don’t Shirk the Draft,” the low point of this campaign is a brief video clip featuring secular, European Jewish Israelis in their early twenties, sitting around drinking chai during their post-military trip abroad.

Kid GenocidalNation

Posted by Jack Stephens on December 18, 2007

Rob Schmidt blogs about the “reality” TV show Kid Nation in where a bunch of kids “go back to the basics” and live in the “Wild” West in Arizona. In one of the shows the kids meet Native Americans in where a whole slew of stereotypes, tepees and all, take place:

Let’s sum up what the kids (and the viewers) have learned about Indians from “Where’s Bonanza, Dude?”

Indians lived here “centuries ago” but are now (almost) gone. You’ll find them only out in the wilderness somewhere if you search long enough. Led by a chief, they live in teepees and do colorful dances. They impart sage advice around flickering fires.

Since the Indians have vanished, the land is empty. It’s okay to to claim this vacant land as your own–to move in and raise towns on it. No Indian people stand in the way of this, your manifest destiny.

So Kid Nation is built on the bones of Indian nations. In that sense, it’s much like the American nation. Greedy, selfish pioneers took what they saw and thought nothing of it. They acted just like children.

Who Are the Real Thugs?

Posted by Jack Stephens on November 28, 2007

The blogger for the blog Oil Wars posts an essay on the recent university demonstrations in Venezuela:

The anti-Chavez protesters shot one of the young workers in the back three times killing him instantly. That is right, the supposedly peacefull anti-Chavez protesters, you know the ones the international press tell us go around with their hands peacefully held up in the air, had guns and were willing to use them to shoot people. Here you can see some of the video of the young man’s relatives and co-workers discussing this outrageous and murderous event.

Of course, those not in Venezuela can be forgiven if they haven’t heard about these events – they barely rate an article in the international press.

So the international press largely ignores it. The opposition controlled press in Venezuela slanders the man saying he was a criminal trying to rob the protesters.

“Watch Out For Dem Burqas! Dems Is Dangerous!”

Posted by Jack Stephens on October 30, 2007

Samhita, on Feministing, writes:

O’Reilly appeared on Good Morning America yesterday to talk about his new book on the youth of today. I am scared that O’Reilly actually was near young people. But I remember teachers like him, the ones that did it to really set these kids straight. They sucked.

But now he has a book out about young people and how to control them and how they act in school. I wouldn’t normally pay attention this, but this got me. O’Reilly claims that wearing a burqa/hijab/veil, is an imposition of religion onto OTHER people. Huh?

Blowing Things Out of Proportion

Posted by Jack Stephens on October 9, 2007

Woman of Color PhD blogs about how white society accuses people of color bloggers and their white allies of blowing small incidents out of proportion and that in reality they are the ones causing racism, not that America is racist:

What is telling about this accusation is not only how easy it is to do a basic search and discover the number of incidents we are talking about but also the ways that once again standing up for the basic civil and human rights of people of color is being seen as inciting hatred and violence.  D.A. Walters said the only thing that saved Jena from violence was God despite evidence that the only people behaving in a violent way were Klan from neighboring areas. Adriene Curry argued that black history month was the real culprit of segregation and racism in this country and only encouraged people to avoid one another and hate each other.  Now, people discussing the Palmdale wrist incident are being likened to antebellum white supremacist propagandanists?

Well there is a pattern, a pattern that has been well documented by the SPLC (as I have said before) and was also documented on CNN tonight.  One month into the school year, we have the following examples at our disposal…

She also has an update on the  Palmdale-Knight High School “cake incident.”

Kaplan on Asia: “Dem Craz-ay Asians is a Commin’!”

Posted by Jack Stephens on October 8, 2007

Dr. Anonymous blogs about an article that Robert Kaplan wrote for the Times about Asian and its political future:

Robert Kaplan, a writer for the Atlantic Monthly, considers American imperialist concerns in Asia in the Times. The article is anything but pacific.

Here’s my favorite part:

Asia’s military-economic vigor is the product of united political, economic and military elites

Aside from the grossly sweeping nature of the statement, it may not even be very accurate, as far as grossly sweeping statements go. He wrote this in the weeks after: the Japanese prime minister resigned; Nepal’s Maoists quit the government; Pakistan is in the throws of yet another change of rule; Sri Lanka is in the middle of the civil war that does not end; Burma’s government is facing perhaps the most serious challenge to its rule since 1988, and India’s Left has threatened to pull the rug out from under the ruling coalition because of a proposed nuclear deal with the U.S.

Racism Don’t Exist Any More! CSI Told Me So!

Posted by Jack Stephens on September 4, 2007

The Angry Black Woman blogs about a  storyline in CSI were a young Black man was killed by one of the main white characters in the show which delves into a “Black people are soooooo sensitive” side story:

This storyline wouldn’t bother me so much if similar situations didn’t happen between law enforcement and black folks all of the time. It’s shows like this that convince people that black folks are usually in the wrong, anyway, or deserved to be killed because they were up to no good, and are crazy to think that the police are racists out to get them, and even if you give them what they want, money, they’ll just act like fools and still commit crime because, well, black people are just bad. By framing it in this context, with a character the audience knows and loves and guest characters who are unrealistically/stereotypically drawn, the show is doing a disservice to the very serious issue at hand. And that just makes me angry.

Immigrants the Modern Day Pilgrims?

Posted by Jack Stephens on July 28, 2007

Brownfemipower comments on some recent cartoons depicting  Native Americans as anti-immigration opponents and the pilgrims as the immigrants of today.  She takes exception with these cartoons as they don’t portray history correctly and view the Native Americans as allowing to be rolled over by the Europeans:

They imply that the colonization of indigenous land is parallel to or equivalent to the migration of brown people over falsely created borders. Let’s be real clear here. Pilgrims came here to colonize the land. They created permanent settlements by which they could steal the resources of the land to pay for their “adventure” while at the same time creating the God blessed “communnity on a hill”. They came here with no intention of leaving–they came here with the investment and backing of companies and government officials back home. We can whine all we want about their noble deeds, but they. were. colonizers.

Poll Says: “Muslims Seeking Destruction!!!”

Posted by Jack Stephens on July 16, 2007

Tereza at White Anti-Parent:

About a month ago, on May 22, the Pew Research Center released a report on Muslim Americans entitled Muslim Americans: Middle Class and Mostly Mainstream. Headlines announcing the results and commentary on the study continue to appear in the press.

Abdus Sattar Ghazali, Executive Editor of the online magazine American Muslim Perspective, made some interesting points about the Pew study. In his article, “Hidden agenda of PEW Center’s million dollar survey of American Muslims”, for The American Muslim, argues that the report grossly undercounts the Muslim population in this country by as much as sixty percent, putting the total of U.S. Muslims at 2.4 million instead of the 6 or 7 estimated by many researchers and Muslim organizations.

Bono: The White African Messiah?

Posted by Jack Stephens on July 14, 2007

A blogger at the sub-Saharan African roundtable blogs about Vanity Fair’s recent issue on U2’s Bono and Africa:

Western reporters tend to shirk many of their journalistic responsibilities, including those that fall under objectivity and accuracy, when it comes to covering the work of do-gooders in Africa. This month’s “Africa”-themed Vanity Fair, the thickest July issue thus far, is a glaring example. Guest edited by Bono, it includes admiring reviews of the U2 frontman’s campaign, Project (Red) and his messiah, Jeffrey Sachs. These two features alone take up seven and eight pages respectively and both writers are unabashed in their adoration of the Bono/Sachs crusade. Considering Graydon Carter’s alarming remark in his editor’s letter that many of those submitting pitches mentioned their “good friend Bono,” they could very well have been written by Bono’s good friends.

Immigration, Nativists, and America’s “Moral Panic”

Posted by Jack Stephens on July 11, 2007

XicanoPwr blogs:

Since 9/11, the question of what immigrants contribute to American society is at the forefront of the immigration debate. Stoking anti-immigrant hostility, nativists and restrictionists commonly resort to marginalizing immigrants by relegating them to an economic underclass. Critics of outsourcing have pointed to India as the source of America’s economic woes, but the issue is a lot more complicated than it is being portrayed. Nativists contribute to the stigma of immigrants are draining social services. However, immigrants actually generate significantly more in taxes paid than they cost in services.

Exploiting Tragedy for Racist Agendas

Posted by Jack Stephens on June 1, 2007

Vegan Kid posts an essay by Tim Wise on white supremacists exploiting the tragedy at Virginia Tech for their own agenda and relates to mainstream racism against people of color:

“With regard to the allegations of racially biased press coverage, to suggest that this case has failed to receive media attention because of the respective races of the perps and the victims is absurd. Research has found that local news (which is the source most of us rely on for crime information) over-represents blacks as offenders, relative to their share of crimes committed, and over-represents whites as victims, relative to the white share of actual crime victims. Furthermore, on both a local and national level, media tends to give more attention to violent crimes committed by blacks against whites than the reverse.”

The Press: We Report and Decide!

Posted by Jack Stephens on May 21, 2007

Gautam Sen, of the blog Gyanoprobha, blogs about the arrest of his brother and its portrayal in the mainstream press in India:

But this is how it is being reported in some of the mainstream press. This the second instance of mainstream papers acting as stenographers to the police: simply passing on the police version, without bothering to check on their claims.

By way of contrast, the Hindustan Times simply repeats the lies put out by the police. “After a week long search”, my brother was supposed to have been arrested in Bilaspur while “trying to consult his lawyer to evade possible police arrest”. This is intended to create the impression of a diligent police force being obstructed by a cowardly terrorist for a whole week while they were busy searching high and low for him.

The Virginia Tech Killer: Its da fault of dem gays!

Posted by Jack Stephens on May 7, 2007

Tom blogs about a headline he saw for The Globe, a national tabloid newspaper, which read “Killer’s Secrete Gay Life: What Really Drove Him to Kill,” in the blog tom’s music film ohio politics n stuff:

Who will buy this magazine because of the headline? Many buy the tabloids for humor because of the preposterousness of it all. But this isn’t funny. The more likely readers are those who are looking for confirmation that gay people are evil and depraved.

Cho Seung-Hui mentioned in his ramblings of his disdain for being bullied — including being called “gay.” Incredibly sad and ironic that he is called gay even after death. And if you haven’t noticed, it is still being used as a negative slur.

Bill Moyers on the Media

Posted by Jack Stephens on April 28, 2007

Louis Proyect writes:

Bill Moyers is an interesting figure. As press secretary to Lyndon Johnson, he turned against the kind of party politics that produces such wars and hooked up with PBS in 1971. Like Ramsey Clark, LBJ’s attorney general, he has been an effective voice for the left even if his ideas stop short of the anti-capitalist conclusions that are implicit in their dynamic. Along with Ralph Nader, these three elder statesmen of the liberal-left know how the system operates from inside and often have unique insights about the rot contained in its heart, as last night’s documentary demonstrates.

White Stripes Support Coke Union Murders!

Posted by Jack Stephens on April 16, 2007

Victor S. of the blog The Apostate Windbag writes about the appearance of the White Stripes in a Coca-Cola add:

(Well, apart from the libellous hyperbole, that post-heading’s essentially true)

Coca-cola, always teaching the world to sing, in per-fect har-mon-ieeee (The updated ‘Teach the world to sing’ ad for Coca-Cola Zero now includes a ‘rap’ bit and Hootie-and-the-Blowfish-style non-threateningly dressed minorities who look like they go to a good university). What a promoter of peace and love. And isn’t what the world needs now, love, sweet love? What a paragon of compassionate capitalism. A very model of corporate responsibility. Except in Colombia, where union leaders and organisers are regularly assassinated at Coke bottling plants while the anti-union parent company turns a blind eye to collusion between paramilitaries and the plant managers. But still, you know, apart from that, they’re a regular bunch of hippie peace-freaks, Coke.
