“I’m Soooo Black And You’re Not!”

The Undercover Black Man blogs about Margaret “Peggy” Seltzer (aka Margaret B. Jones) the author of Love and Consequences: A Memoir of Hope and Survival:
It’s the story of how young Margaret used to run with the Bloods – along with her foster brothers – and sell drugs… until she turned her life around and left the gang-banging behind.
Guess what?
Fucking lies. All of it.
Her real name is Margaret “Peggy” Seltzer. She’s white. Just plain ol’ white. And she grew up comfortable in white-ass Sherman Oaks with her natural family.

Should I laugh or cry?

Renegade Eye: Yeah seriously. A lot of issues surrounding that case; white privilege, journalistic ethics, representations of race in American media, lots of issues.

I think it’s a shame. People are actually dying over gang violence whether due to being members or being innocent bystanders, and are desperately searching for a way out or to protect themselves.
And here comes a woman from a privileged background whom has not suffered the attrocities written in her book and sought to gain fame and wealth by exploiting others invisibility and poverty.
Disgusting.
